Description
The Non Stop Music Internet Shop, was my graduation piece from the art school in Iceland. I was so obsessed with the Internet being the future, where we would all be looking at art and half living in some virtual reality spaces, that I decided to try to be ahead of the times and present my works on an internet homepage. The space was designed so that people could visit it like visiting a shop or a studio (Andy Warhol was a great inspiration to that idea) and explore the homepage on a computer. Instead of using a screen, I used a video projector. Guests were supposed to feel comfortable, in contrast to the rest of the graduation show, where works were presented in standard white painted, strongly lit spaces with hard uncomfortable concrete floors. To make the guests feel comfortable I put in a sofa, and I had hot coffee and some biscuits ready, so people could sit down and rest. This element I would pick up again and again through out my practice, and take it to it’s full capacity in The Espressobar series. It was also a kind of a constant presence, as I stayed in the room the whole time of the exhibition, making music with my friend Isak Eldh, a swedish art student, that I had formed an electronic band with called SPELA. So, it was a creative place, a relaxing place, and very digital oriented as well. The homepage itself was set up like a landscape, where a small red car would drive from one place to another and in each place, one work was displayed. Unfortunately I don’t have a back up of this home page, which would have been awesome, only some images exist.
